In short: UnKey never collects, shares or transmits your files, passwords, scans or personal information. Everything happens on your device, and anything it keeps stays on your device.

Your files and passwords

PDFs you open in UnKey and the passwords you enter are processed only on your iPhone, iPad, Mac or Android device. They are never uploaded, sent to a server or shared with anyone. Unlocked copies are kept in the app's temporary storage until you save or share them, and are deleted when you start over or the system clears temporary files.

Saved passwords

If you choose to save a PDF password, UnKey stores it on your device: in the Keychain on Apple devices, protected by Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode, and encrypted with a key in the Android Keystore on Android, protected by your fingerprint, face or screen lock. Saved passwords stay on that one device: they are not synced, backed up to other devices, or sent anywhere. The names you give them are stored in the app's local settings. Deleting a saved password, or deleting the app, removes it.

Scans, signatures and text recognition

Photos you scan, signatures you draw and the text UnKey reads from pages (to make scans searchable or to find text to redact) are processed on your device using Apple's built-in frameworks, or on Android using Google's on-device ML Kit document scanner and text recognition (part of Google Play services). Your signature is stored only on your device, so you can reuse it. Your images and text never leave your device.

On Android, Google Play services may send Google limited, anonymous diagnostics about ML Kit itself, such as device model, OS version, app version, performance and error codes, as described in Google's ML Kit data disclosure. This never includes your scans, documents or the text read from them. The UnKey app itself has no internet permission on Android.

No servers

UnKey has no servers and never sends your files, passwords or scans anywhere. All of its tools work with no internet connection at all.

UnKey Pro purchases

If you buy or restore UnKey Pro, the purchase is handled entirely by Apple's App Store or Google Play, under their privacy policies. UnKey only receives the store's confirmation that Pro is active on your account; we never see your payment details.

No data collection

UnKey has no accounts, analytics, advertising or tracking. We (the developer) receive no personal information, usage data, diagnostics or identifiers. The only exception is the anonymous ML Kit diagnostics on Android described above, which go to Google, not to us.

This website

unkeypdf.app uses no cookies, analytics or trackers, and loads nothing from third parties. Like any website, the hosting provider may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security.

Children

UnKey collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
