Bank accounts are different. HSBC Singapore says it no longer emails encrypted statements for current and savings accounts. You view or download them in the HSBC Singapore app or Online Banking, where statements from the last 12 months are available.
Worked example
Tan Wei Ming (made-up) has an HSBC Visa Revolution card numbered 4000 0000 5501 2468.
- Card name: HSBC VISA REVOLUTION, so the initials are
HVR - Last 8 digits:
55012468
His password is HVR55012468.
If the password doesn't work
- Use capitals and no spaces. Type the initials in capitals, as HSBC shows them, with no spaces or dashes before the digits.
- Use the right card name. Some names don't abbreviate the way you might expect. HSBC Prive uses
HPand HSBC Visa Card usesHVC. Check the table. - Replaced card? If your card was reissued with a new number, try the last 8 digits of the card number the statement belongs to.
- Old statements. PDFs sent before HSBC changed the format may use an older password based on personal details. HSBC's FAQ doesn't describe the old format.
- Read the email the statement came with. It explains the password.
- Download it instead from the HSBC Singapore app or Online Banking, or call HSBC on 1800 4722 669 (local).
Removing the password so you don't have to type it again
Once the statement opens, you can keep an unlocked copy so you are not typing the password every month. On iPhone, iPad or Mac, UnKey does this offline: you enter the password you already know, and it saves a copy without the password on your device. Nothing is uploaded. You can also do the same with Preview on a Mac or the "print to PDF" option in most PDF readers. Store the unlocked copy somewhere private, because anyone who gets hold of it can read it.
