DD is the two-digit day, MM the two-digit month and YY or YYYY the year, always with leading zeros: 7 March 1994 is 0703 as DDMM and 07031994 as DDMMYYYY.
When a statement email says your password includes your date of birth “in DDMM” or “DDMMYYYY” format, each letter stands for a digit: DD is the day, MM the month and YYYY the year. Always use two digits for the day and month, adding a leading zero. For someone born on 7 March 1994, DDMM is 0703 and DDMMYYYY is 07031994. Don't type slashes, dots or spaces unless the email shows them.

Sources for each format are on the linked guides, which cite the issuer's own pages. For example, TRACES states the Form 26AS password is the date of birth “in DDMMYYYY format” (TRACES FAQ), and UIDAI gives the e-Aadhaar format as name letters plus year of birth (UIDAI).
Five mistakes that cause “incorrect password”
- Dropping the zero. 7 March is
0703, not73. - Swapping day and month. DDMM is day first. Phones set to US style show dates month first, so 03/07 on your screen may mean 7 March. Write the date out before converting.
- Typing separators.
07/03/1994and07-03-1994are different passwords from07031994. - Using the wrong date. Banks use the date of birth on their records, which can differ from your real one if it was entered wrongly when you opened the account. Tax portals use the date on your PAN.
- Getting the month letters' case wrong. BDO uses
Mar, Security Bank usesMAR. Copy the case from the email.
Business accounts
For companies, firms and trusts, the “date of birth” slot usually holds the date of incorporation in the same format. The Income Tax Department says so for the AIS PDF (AIS steps).

Questions
What is DDMM for 5 January?
0501. Two digits for the day, then two for the month.
What does YY mean?
The last two digits of the year, so 1994 becomes 94 and 2001 becomes 01.
Do I type the slashes?
No, unless the issuer's email shows them. Formats like DDMMYYYY mean eight digits with nothing in between.
Which date of birth does the bank use?
The one on its records. If you suspect it was entered wrongly, try that date or ask the bank.
