Zerodha Contract Note Password Format (2026)

Your PAN in capital letters.

Zerodha contract notes open with your PAN in capital letters. If Ravi Kumar's PAN is ABCPK1234L, he types ABCPK1234L.

As of October 2026, Zerodha's support page How to download contract notes? says: "Open these contract notes using your PAN (in capital letters) as the password."

The password format

A contract note is the record of every trade you made on a day, with prices, charges and taxes. Zerodha emails it to your registered address on the trade date. The PDF is protected with your PAN: ten characters, all letters in upper case, nothing added before or after.

The same applies whether you open the email attachment or a copy you requested from Console.

Worked example

• Account holder (made-up): Priya Sharma
• PAN: BQKPS4821M
• Contract note password: BQKPS4821M

Typing bqkps4821m will fail because the letters are lower case.

Getting a contract note again

Zerodha's page explains that you can download contract notes manually from Console (console.zerodha.com) under Reports, Downloads: choose Contract note, pick the date range and have it emailed to your registered address. The emailed file uses the same PAN password.

Other Zerodha statements

Zerodha's support page on the Consolidated Account Statement (CAS) explains how to get your CAS from the depositories. That CAS comes from the depository, not from Zerodha, and both CDSL and NSDL say it opens with the first holder's PAN in capital letters. For other Zerodha reports, such as tax P&L or ledger downloads, check the email they came with; we did not find an official Zerodha page listing a password for each one.

If the password doesn't work

• Caps lock. The PAN letters must be capitals.
• Check for spaces. Phone keyboards and copy-paste sometimes add a trailing space.
• Whose PAN? Use the PAN of the account holder on that Zerodha account. For a family member's account, it is their PAN, not yours.
• HUF or corporate accounts. Use the PAN of the HUF or company that holds the account.
• Old or forwarded files. If a file will not open at all, request a fresh copy from Console.
• Still stuck? Raise a ticket through Zerodha's support portal.

Why the contract note matters

The contract note is the legal record of your trades. You need it to check charges, to raise disputes with the broker, and often at tax time when your CA works out capital gains. Keeping unlocked copies in one folder for the financial year saves hunting through old emails later.

Contract note passwords at different brokers

If you trade through more than one broker, the rules differ, which is the usual cause of a wrong-password error. From each broker's own help pages:

Look at who sent the email before you start typing. The broker's name is printed on the contract note itself, but you only see it after the file opens, so the sender address is the quicker clue.

Removing the password so you don't have to type it again

Once the file is open, you can save a copy without the password so you are not typing it every time you need the statement, for example when you hand it to your CA at tax time.
