For individual clients, a Geojit contract note opens with the first 4 characters of your PAN in capital letters followed by your birth day and month (DDMM). Ravi Kumar, PAN ABCPK1234L, born 15 May 1990, types ABCP1505.

As of October 2026, Geojit's support article What is a Digital Contract Note (DCN)? gives this rule, with its own example: PAN BDPBV2015Z and date of birth 31.01.1979 give the password BDPB3101. For non-individual clients it says the password is "Your PAN (in CAPITAL LETTERS)."

The password format

Account typePasswordLength
IndividualPAN characters 1 to 4 in capitals + DD + MM of birth8 characters
Non-individual (company, firm, trust etc.)Full PAN in capitals10 characters

Note that Geojit's article calls the date part "the first 4 characters of your date of birth". In its example (31.01.1979 becomes 3101) that means the day and month, two digits each. The year is not used.

Worked examples

  • Individual (made-up): Priya Sharma, PAN BQKPS4821M, born 7 March 1988. First four PAN characters: BQKP. Day and month: 0703. Password: BQKP0703.
  • Company (made-up): Lakshmi Traders Pvt Ltd, PAN AAACL5566R. Password: AAACL5566R.

Getting the contract note

Geojit's article explains that the Digital Contract Note is emailed to your registered address after each trading day. If the email cannot be delivered, for example because your mailbox is full or the address is wrong, Geojit sends a physical contract note to your registered address instead.

If the password doesn't work

  • Use only four PAN characters. The most common mistake is typing the whole PAN. For individuals, stop after the fourth character.
  • Leading zeros. A birthday on 5 June is 0506, not 56.
  • Day first, then month. 7 March is 0703, not 0307.
  • Capitals. The four PAN letters must be upper case.
  • Date of birth on record. Use the date Geojit has on your account, which normally matches your PAN record.
  • Different document. A CAS from NSDL or CDSL, or a mutual fund statement, follows a different rule. Check who sent the email.
  • Still stuck? Contact Geojit support with your client ID.

How this compares with other brokers

Most large brokers use the full PAN, so people who move from another broker often try that first:

Removing the password so you don't have to type it again

Once the file is open, you can save a copy without the password so you are not typing it every time you need the contract note. On iPhone, iPad or Mac, UnKey does this offline: you enter the password once, it saves an unlocked copy, and nothing is uploaded anywhere. It only works when you already know the password; it does not guess or crack passwords. On Android, the file opens with the password in Google Files, Google Drive or Adobe Acrobat Reader, and you can usually save a copy without the password by printing it to PDF. Keep the unlocked copy somewhere private, because it shows your trades and part of your PAN.
