If your payslip comes from Keka and asks for a password, type your PAN in capital letters. For example, if your PAN is ABCDE1234F, the password is ABCDE1234F.

As of October 2026, Keka's admin help says: "If enabled, the employee's PAN (in uppercase) is used as the password" (Keka – pay group and payslip settings). Its payslip management article says the same: employees should use their PAN number in uppercase.

The password format

Keka is a payroll and HR platform used by many Indian companies. Your employer, not Keka, decides whether payslips are locked. Keka lets admins turn payslip password protection on or off under Payroll, Settings, Paygroup, Other Settings. When it is on, the payslip PDF opens with:

  • Your PAN (Permanent Account Number), the 10-character code on your PAN card
  • In uppercase (capital letters)
  • No spaces, no date of birth, no name

If your payslip opens without asking for a password, your employer has switched protection off.

If the password doesn't work

  • Use capitals. abcde1234f will not work. Check that Caps Lock is on, or that your phone keyboard has capitals switched on for every letter.
  • Check the PAN on file. The password is the PAN your employer entered in Keka. If HR has a typo in your PAN, the password will contain the same typo. Your PAN is often printed on the payslip and on Form 16, so ask HR to check.
  • Letter O vs zero. PANs have letters in positions 1–5 and 10, and digits in positions 6–9. If you are reading the PAN off a photo, make sure you did not swap O and 0.
  • A different system. Some companies use Keka for HR but run payroll elsewhere, or send Form 16 through another provider. If PAN in capitals does not work, check the email the payslip came with, because your employer may use a different tool or a custom password.
  • Ask HR or payroll. Keka's help tells admins to inform employees about the password format, so your HR team should be able to confirm it.

Downloading your payslip from Keka

You can also download payslips from the Keka web portal or app, under your salary or payslips section. Whether the downloaded file is locked depends on the same employer setting.

Removing the password so you don't have to type it again

Once the file opens, you can keep a copy without the password. On iPhone, iPad or Mac, UnKey does this offline: you type the password once, it saves an unlocked copy, and nothing is uploaded. It only works when you already know the password. It does not guess or crack passwords. On Android, the PDF opens with the password in Google Files, Google Drive or Adobe Acrobat Reader, and you can save a copy without the password by printing it to PDF. Keep the unlocked copy somewhere private, because anyone who gets it can read it.

Questions

What is the password for a Keka payslip?

Your PAN in capital letters, for example ABCDE1234F, according to Keka's help centre. This only applies if your employer has switched payslip password protection on.

Is the Keka payslip password case-sensitive?

Yes. Keka says the PAN is used in uppercase, so type all letters as capitals.

Why does my Keka payslip open without a password?

Your employer can switch payslip password protection on or off. If it is off, the PDF opens directly.

Can I change my Keka payslip password?

No. It is your PAN as recorded by your employer. If your PAN is wrong in Keka, ask HR to correct it.
